WHAT IS THE YARD?

The Yard is our ministry space on the Ashburton estate in Putney and our base for a range of community-focused initiatives.

WHERE IS IT?

401 - 403 Tildesley Road, Putney, SW15 3BD

Click here to see where The Yard is on a map.

At present, we are still only able to run a limited range of ministries from The Yard, but we are seeing more and more people coming through our doors in increasingly desperate need.

There are still plenty of ways to get involved so that we can be a blessing to those around us.

You can find out more in the sections below.

Growbaby

Growbaby was pioneered by Peter & Noni Farrelly, who lead the Kingston Vineyard. The aim of Growbaby is to provide good quality, new and second-hand, baby clothes and equipment, completely free of charge, to anyone who needs it, regardless of their income, background, or faith.

We've been talking with Peter & Noni and, again in response to the growing need we're seeing across our local communities will starting the SWLV Growbaby over the coming weeks.

If you have any new or good quality second-hand baby clothes and equipment, or would like to be involved in some way, do contact Kate Woodward (kate@swlv.org.uk).

Given the significant increase in demand Kingston Vineyard have seen over the recent months, Growbaby Kingston is looking for volunteer drivers to deliver items around the Kingston and SW London area. If you have your own car and might be free on the odd Wednesday afternoon, do get in touch with Kate (kate@swlv.org.uk).

You can find out more about Growbaby here: https://www.kingstonvineyard.co.uk/growbaby/

We as a church want to offer you a place to talk about money and how you are doing financially at the present moment.

Money can be hard to talk about, but we want to provide a shame-free space where you can be as open as you would like.

Whatever your financial situation we will not judge you, ask you to talk about anything you don’t want to or make you do anything at all. Our sole desire is to be a listening ear and to provide options and advice but only if you want it!

We realise that the COVID crisis has been hard on us all, but for some it has significantly affected income and job security.

The following questionnaire is simply an opportunity to arrange a telephone appointment with someone who is there just for you. To listen and, if you so desire, to offer you some advice on which organisations might be able to help you with whatever challenge it is you are facing with your finances right now.

Anyone is welcome to use this service, no matter your income or financial situation. We would love to be of help to anyone who needs it.

Ark Putney Academy

School Uniform

Ark

One of the very many challenges faced by those in need during this time has been around the provision of school uniform, shoes & coats.

These items have always been expensive to buy and children often grow out of them before they are worn out.

To assist vulnerable families from the Ark Putney Academy SWLV will be supplying a range of school uniform items and shoes etc, in a range of different sizes, in order for the school to set up a School Uniform Shop.

These uniforms, which help students feel an integral part of the school community, will then be made available to those most in need.

If you would like to contribute financially to support this initiative please contact Helen Kite. (helen@swlv.org.uk)

So she wrote a song of freedom and bravely took it back into the same kind of red-light districts she ran from not so long ago.Alongside Eden's Outreach team, she sat in dark brothels with broken young women and shared how she had bravely escaped.

When you choose hope, anything is possible. When Eden Outreach team discovered a new red light district in the city, they were shocked at how young the girls looked.

From her hiding place behind a car, one of these young women locked eyes with a team member. Enzali had been looking for a job at the bus station when a rickshaw driver said he could employ her as a masseuse. Instead, he took her to a brothel where she was trapped for seven months. We gave her an exit strategy, stealthily wrote our phone number on some ripped paper, and sneaked it into her tiny hand.

Growing up in a large poverty-stricken family in a large slum in Myanmar, May Yu Zin left school early to help her mother care for her eight other siblings. Buried in debt and at the very end of their means, an agent visited the family and offered a month’s salary upfront for a lucrative factory job in a foreign country. May Yu Zin took the job despite her suspicions but ended up locked in a room full of other girls like her and far from home. However, despite the impossible circumstances, May Yu Zin held on to hope and bided her time, watching her captors carefully.

Her story of escape and how she was even advised by a stranger in her tribal dialect miles from home is nothing short of miraculous. The resilience of women and girls like May Yu Zin is astounding, and we can only compare them to desert flowers.

Against all odds, the photo of Haymar finally reunited with her family matched the painting she’d hung on Eden’s Dream Wall months before.

She was first separated from them when she traded rural life for a job in the city as a maid. Unsure about where to turn after escaping her abusive boss, Haymar took the help of a young man… only to learn that the shelter he gave was in a brothel. When Eden Outreach met her, Haymar had suffered eight years of traumatic sexual exploitation and abuse. As her body healed at Eden, Haymar became hopeful about her future. She began to dream of finding her lost family.

Hope requires us to believe that a renewed future is possible when everything around us suggests otherwise. Hope pulls us through the darkness if we can just hold on tight enough.

Today, Fan’s scissors click with confidence behind a hair salon chair. But just a few years ago, she sat in a brothel on “Justice Street’ silently willing the minutes to tick by faster.

When Eden Outreach met Fan, she had been forced to drop out of school. Lacking job prospects, she followed a boyfriend who promised a life of love and luxury… only to manipulate her into prostitution. Under watchful eyes, we gave her a Christmas gift and our phone number. She soon called, inspired by the opportunity to make jewelry.

At Eden, Fan healed in therapy, trained rescued women in making jewelry just like this piece, and trained as a hairstylist. The cogs of justice have ground to a halt on Justice Street. But as our Outreach team continues to visit this dark area, each step we take is a small cog moving toward changing a broken system.

When someone like Fan starts a new life, the gears turn and the clock hands tick toward a time when justice will prevail.

Su Su’s smile is contagious the day her family and Eden staff gather to celebrate her baby’s 100 day birthday. In that moment, the journey of faith that brought her here feels so much nearer than the day her suffering began.

At eleven, she left school for a factory job. However, she didn’t earn enough to support her family. So she was excited when her boss told her about a better job in China. The young girl trusted his promises but found herself living in the nightmare of being sold over the border as a bride. After being locked in a hotel room for days, she escaped. Anti- trafficking officials helped her return to Myanmar, where she learned she was pregnant at Eden.
