Rule of Life

Week 8

Leviticus 25:1-5

Watch the service from Sunday 15 November

Leviticus 25:1-5

The Lord said to Moses at Mount Sinai,“Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When you enter the land I am going to give you, the land itself must observe a sabbath to the Lord. For six years sow your fields, and for six years prune your vineyards and gather their crops. But in the seventh year the land is to have a year of sabbath rest, a sabbath to the Lord. Do not sow your fields or prune your vineyards. Do not reap what grows of itself or harvest the grapes of your untended vines. The land is to have a year of rest.

Questions to Consider:

  • What struck you from the talk that might be helpful as we think about Sabbath?
  • What has been your experience (if any) with Sabbath?
  • What makes observing Sabbath a challenge for you?
  • Given your life stage & circumstances, are there any practical steps you can take to move towards practising Sabbath?
  • What do you think of the idea that the 'land is to have a year of rest'?

  • For this week:

How might you explore ways in which you can practise Sabbath rest?

Week 7

Revelation 1:17-18

Watch the service from Sunday 8 November

Revelation 1:17-18

'When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades."

Questions to Consider:

  • What struck you from this morning’s talk that may help you over the coming weeks of lockdown / slowdown?
  • Do you find yourself feeling anxious or fearful in this current climate?
  • Do you feel able to entrust your deepest fears to Jesus?

For this week:

Spend some time in God's presence, breathing in the Holy Spirit and laying our fears, worries and anxieties at the foot of the Cross.

Week 6

Matthew 11:28-30

Watch the service from Sunday 25 October

Questions to Consider:

  • Read Matt 11:28-30. What are your first responses to this passage?
  • How are you finding this series on developing a Rule of Life?
  • What do you think might be the ‘unforced rhythms of grace’?
  • What are some of the ways that you can ‘come to Jesus’ and intentionally rest during the course of a day? Would you describe this rest as replenishing?
  • What might be some of the ways you can more intentionally enter Jesus’ rest this week?

For this week:

Take some time this week to review the past few weeks’ content. What have you found helpful/challenging?

How can you find ways to enter Jesus’ rest this week? What might that look like for you specifically given your life-stage?

Spend some time sharing with your small group this week as together you explore developing a Rule of Life.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."
