Activity #2 If I go walking, walking, walking

Climate Change Conversation Starter & Prayer Activity #2

Sunday 10 October 2021 - If I go walking, walking, walking..

Go for a walk as a family, use the time to talk and pray about how you get around.

Ask: How far can we go?

  • Is our school/nursery/childminder too far to walk to? How about where our friends/family live? The park? The shops? An activity that we do?
  • How would we normally get around locally? Walk? Cycle? Drive? Bus? Scoot? Train? Tube?
  • Do we do that because it’s convenient or because it is what’s best? What’s best? What’s best for who? Us and our feet? Our busy day? Our planet?

Consider: Each time we drive short distances, we’re putting polluting things into the air around us, from our car’s fumes. Petrol and diesel cars release poisonous gases - pretty much the worst is a nasty whiff called carbon monoxide. When we walk, scoot or cycle, we do very little to the air around us. Walking, scooting and cycling short distances can be a small start to making a BIG difference.

Talk as family about what you can do or change about how you get around.

Pray as you walk, for the area around you - try to notice three things you wouldn’t have noticed if you’d been in a car, and thank God for them.

Pray for the church as we do our bit.

Pray for the leaders in this country and the world to take action to move away from petrol and diesel vehicles.

But he’s already made it plain how to live,

what to do, what God is looking for in men and women.

It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbour,

be compassionate and loyal in your love,

And don’t take yourself too seriously

— take God seriously.

Micah 6:8 (Message version)
